Kristine Fowler was appointed Director of Athletics and Chair of the Physical Education Department at Hamilton College on March 2, 2026, bringing more than 25 years of distinguished, high-impact experience in intercollegiate athletics administration. Fowler is widely respected as a strategic and mission-driven leader and offers deep expertise in department operations, governance, compliance, revenue generation and organizational effectiveness.
Fowler joined Hamilton after serving as Senior Deputy Athletics Director and Chief Operating Officer at Dartmouth College from October 2022 to March 2026. In that pivotal role, she was instrumental in shaping the strategic vision and operational execution of a comprehensive athletics and recreation department that included 35 varsity teams, approximately 950 student-athletes and more than 170 coaches and staff. Fowler worked closely with the director of athletics and aligned long-term planning, day-to-day operations and culture-building initiatives to advance competitive excellence and enhance the student-athlete experience.
Prior to Dartmouth, Fowler held multiple senior executive leadership positions at the Army West Point Athletics Association. As a member of the department’s four-person senior leadership team, she also served as the Senior Woman Administrator. Fowler directed department-wide planning and operations for an athletics program supporting more than 1,000 cadet-athletes across 30 sports, oversaw revenue generation and business development initiatives, and led key organizational effectiveness efforts. Her sport oversight portfolio included women’s basketball, women’s lacrosse, women’s volleyball and wrestling, and she played a central role in multiple head coaching searches.
Fowler’s earlier career includes seven years at Indiana University Bloomington where she served as Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and later as Senior Associate Athletics Director for Sport Administration. She oversaw compliance operations under strict NCAA, Big Ten Conference and university standards, and served as sport administrator for field hockey, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis, rowing and wrestling. She also represented the department on the Big Ten Sports Management Committee.
From 2006 to 2012, Fowler was an assistant athletics director at the University of Kansas where she managed day-to-day compliance operations and served as liaison to the Office of General Counsel and outside legal counsel. She began her career in intercollegiate athletics at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Fla., where she served as Assistant Director of Compliance from 2003 to 2006.
Beyond campus leadership, Fowler has played an influential role nationally, serving as President and Board Member of the National Association of Athletic Compliance and contributing extensively to committees within Women Leaders in College Sports.
Fowler, who is from Nebraska, earned her bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Nebraska and her master’s degree in sport management from Barry University where she graduated with high honors. She resides in Clinton, N.Y., with her husband, Joseph, and their high school–aged children, Kennedy and Jefferson.
