Five career-best times and women’s XC places 8th at regionals

Five Hamilton College athletes recorded personal-best times and the Continentals finished in eighth place out of 38 teams at the 2019 NCAA Division III Atlantic Region Women's Cross Country Championship hosted by St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., on Saturday.

Brigit Humphreys '21 led the Buff and Blue, finishing in 11th place out of 274 athletes with a career-best 6-kilometer time of 22:42.4. Parley Hannan of Ithaca College was the race winner in 21:01.2. Humphrey's performance put her in excellent position to qualify as an individual for the NCAA Division III championship for the first time in her career. The entire field for next Saturday's championship will be announced Sunday afternoon.

Natasha Lane '21 was next for Hamilton in 37th place with a personal-best time of 23:37.3, and Liza Greene '22 was nipping at her heels in 38th place with her career-best time of 23:37.9. Katie Jenkinson '23 landed in 68th place by recording the fastest time of her rookie season (24:19.3), Courtney Brunet '20 ended up 73rd with a career-best mark of 24:27.1 and Haley Driscoll '21 placed 76th with a time of 24:32.4. Katie Cronin '21 rounded out Hamilton's field with a time of 25:04 (110th place).

The Continentals registered 227 team points. Nationally ranked No. 8 SUNY Geneseo captured the regional team title with 68 points and No. 14 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (83 points) was second. No. 26 Ithaca took third place (102), No. 20 University of Rochester was fourth (122) and No. 33 Vassar College was fifth (168).
