Heller '19 leads women's cross country to 5th place at Saratoga

Hamilton College finished in fifth place out of 16 teams at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's 2018 Saratoga Cross Country Invitational at Saratoga Spa State Park in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Saturday morning.

Hamilton's Grace Heller '19 posted a personal-record 5-kilometer time of 17:52.8 and finished third out of 192 runners. Heller ended up just 2.8 seconds behind the race winner from Division II College of Saint Rose.

Brigit Humphreys '21 landed in 20th place with a time of 18:34.4, which was just a tenth of a second off her personal best for 5,000 meters. Mary Lundin '19 finished 51st in 19:11.3 and Haley Driscoll '21 (55th, 19:17) and Mia Schiel '22 (56th, 19:17.1) rounded out the Continentals' top five. Courtney Brunet '20 (65th, 19:29.3) and Andy Uribe '19 (66th, 19:29.5) finished two-tenths of a second apart. Driscoll and Brunet recorded their best 5K times.

Hamilton wound up with 163 team points. Nationally ranked No. 18 St. Lawrence University captured the team title with 54 points and No. 6 Williams was runner-up with 63. No. 15 RPI was third with 67 points and No. 33 Vassar College finished fourth with 109.

The Continentals host their own annual invitational on Saturday, Oct. 6 as racing gets underway at 11 a.m.
