Heller '19 leads women's cross country to short course team title

Hamilton College edged Ithaca College for the team title in the 2018 Hamilton Short Course Invitational on Saturday morning.

The Continentals finished with 33 team points while nationally ranked No. 10 Ithaca College racked up 40. Division II Le Moyne College ended up third in the eight-team meet with 69 points.

Hamilton's Grace Heller '19 topped the 107-runner field with a time of 14:44.2 on the 4-kilometer course. Heller, who competed in the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, was more than 19 seconds ahead of the athlete in second place.

Brigit Humphreys '21 was next for the Continentals in fourth place and a time of 15:10.1. Mary Lundin '19 crossed the finish line in sixth place with a time of 15:23.3 and Kristen Bitsberger '22 was 10th in 15:41.3 in her first collegiate race. Liza Greene '22 rounded out Hamilton's top five in 12th place and a time of 15:47.2 in her debut.

The Continentals are off next weekend and return to the course on Saturday, Sept. 22 for Williams' Purple Valley Classic at Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Mass.
