Women’s track & field races away with 17 top-3 finishes at Cortland

The Hamilton College women's track and field team had 17 athletes finish in the top three in their respective events at SUNY Cortland's Friday Night Under the Lights Invitational on April 12.

Cat Berry '19 guided the Continentals with a first place finish of 25.68 seconds in the 200-meter dash and she finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.49 seconds. Berry was also part of winning 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Hamilton's 400-meter relay of McKela Kanu '22, Berry, Marie Steiner '20 and Diamond Jackson '21 posted a winning time of 48.75 seconds, which was just 0.49 seconds off the program record the quartet set two weeks ago.

In the 1,600-meter relay Steiner, Berry, Mary Lundin 19 and Caitlin McHugh '20 posted a top time of 4:04.82 that was 0.62 seconds shy of the program record set back on May 3, 2003. Steiner (12.62 seconds) and Kanu (13.17) finished third and fifth in the 100 meters, and Steiner (25.96) and Jackson (26.79) placed second and fourth in the 200 meters.

Katie Cronin '21, Maisie Merz '21 and Andy Uribe '19 swept the top three places in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Cronin posted a winning time of 12:13.40, Merz finished in 12:23.70 and Uribe recorded a time 12:46.71.

Jackson led the field events, finishing first in the triple jump with a mark of 10.54 meters. Leigh Gelotte '19 finished third in the high jump with a height of 1.50 meters and Emily Steates '19 took third place in the long jump with a bound of 4.94 meters. Andrea Shipton '22 was sixth in the pole vault as she cleared 3.20 meters.

Grace Heller '19 placed first in the 5,000-meter run (18:59.97) and Kristen Bitsberger '22 was third with a time of 19:52.06. Mary Lundin '19 raced to second place in the 800-meter run (2:17.71), and Liza Greene '22 placed second in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:11.12. Mia Schiel '22 was right behind Greene in third place (5:12.17).

On Saturday, Gill Roberts '19 was the lone competitor at SUNY Delhi's Bronco Classic. Roberts placed fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 32.52 meters. 

Hamilton hosts its annual Mid-Week Invitational at Pritchard Track on Tuesday, April 16.
