Team of Roberts '22, Holtzman '23 find success at tennis regionals

Hamilton College's Kat Roberts '22 and Lauren Holtzman '23 advanced into the quarterfinals of the doubles bracket draw at the 2019 ITA Division III Women's Northeast Regional Championship hosted by William Smith College on Sept. 21 and 22.

Roberts and Holtzman were one of the top eight seeds remaining in the tournament before falling 8-1 to fourth-seeded Risa Fukushige and Chanhtel Thongphok of Skidmore College on Sunday. Roberts and Holtzman defeated Ithaca College's Alexandra Dyszewski and Brianna Ruback 8-3 in the first round and posted an 8-4 victory over Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute's Chloe Barr and Krisia Flores in the second round.

Three of the Continentals' five competitors advanced to the second round in the singles bracket draw. Roberts outlasted Rochester Institute of Technology's Kristen Zablonski 4-6, 6-2, 10-6 in the first round, but was knocked out by No. 1 seed Fukushige in the next round.

Holtzman, who is one of the top 16 seeds in the singles draw, breezed to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over University of Rochester's Abbey Reinhart. Holtzman fell to RPI's Rani Jones in the next round. Savi Roberts '23 cruised to a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over St. Lawrence University's Lillian Sullivan before she was taken out in the second round by eighth-seeded Lily Feldman of Skidmore. Roberts rebounded with a 6-1 win over William Smith's Katelyn Nguyen in the consolation round on Sunday. Becca Ingber '22 lost her opening round meeting with second-seeded Alex Mednikova.
