Women’s tennis wins three titles at the Mary Hosking Invite

The Hamilton College Continentals advanced to the finals in four of the six singles and doubles draws and captured three titles at the 2019 William Smith College Mary Hosking Women's Tennis Invitational on Sept. 7 and 8.

Lauren Holtzman '23 went undefeated in eight matches, winning both the "A" flight singles title and the "A" flight doubles title along with Kat Roberts '22.

Holtzman defeated Ithaca's Alexandra Dyszewski 8-4 in the opening round before cruising into the final with an 8-1 victory over Geneseo's Sam Montague in the quarterfinals and by an 8-2 count over William Smith's Allie Perron in the semifinals. Holtzman clinched the title by posting an 8-5 win over Rochester's Rola Abouzeina.

Holtzman and Roberts dominated "A" doubles, allowing just seven points to their opponents. Their closest match was an 8-3 decision in the first round against Geneseo's Grace Klomp and Julianna Schultz. The Hamilton pair won 8-1 in the final over Abouzeina and Sravya Gudipudi from Rochester.

Savi Roberts '23 also captured the "B" singles crown for Hamilton. Roberts defeated Ithaca's Rebecca Andrews in the first round and St. Lawrence's Caitlyn Avery 8-3 in the quarterfinals. Roberts posted another 8-3 victory over her RIT opponent in the semifinals and defeated Rochester's Gudipudi 8-4 in the final.

In "C" flight singles, Sarah Bargamian '22 rolled over Nazareth's Rachel Cook 8-1 in round one and edged Geneseo's Dana Sorrentino 9-8 in the quarterfinals. Bargamian faced back-to-back Rochester opponents in the semifinals and final with Yaya Wang winning the title, 8-4.

The Continentals return to William Smith from Sept. 21 to Sept. 23 for the ITA Northeast Regional Championships.
