Hamilton College's Kat Roberts '22 captured the "A" flight singles title at the 2018 William Smith College Mary Hosking Invitational on Sunday.

All 12 Hamilton women's tennis players competed in the eight-team event that began on Saturday with first round and quarterfinal matches. All semifinals and finals were played on Sunday. Athletes competed in four singles and two doubles flights.

Roberts, who was playing in her first collegiate event, was the "A" flight's top seed. She defeated St. Lawrence University's Christina Ryan in the first round (8-2) and William Smith's Dina Rigas in the quarterfinals (8-1). Roberts edged University of Rochester's Camila Garcia in the semifinals (9-8) and defeated teammate Sophia Aulicino '21 in the final in a walkover after Aulicino suffered an injury in her semifinal match.

Aulicino was the No. 2 seed in "A" flight and had been rolling through the field before suffering her injury during her semifinal victory. She defeated Rochester Institute of Technology's Anne Taylor in the first round (8-1), St. Lawrence's Caroline Reilly in the quarters (8-2), and classmate Audrey Chor '21 in the semifinals (8-2). Chor knocked off Nazareth College's Elizabeth Karstedt in the first round (8-1) and Rochester's Cami Ruiz Vega in the quarters (8-4).

The Continentals had two of the four seeded players in the "B" flight singles bracket but an unseeded Hamilton player reached the final. Sarah Bargamian '22 enjoyed a successful first collegiate tournament as she defeated SUNY Geneseo's Natalia Krol in the first round (8-5), RIT's Shayna Ginster in the quarters (9-7), and Ithaca College's Kathryn Shaffer in the semifinals (9-7).

Becca Ingber '22 was the No. 3 seed in "B" flight and she made it to the semifinals. Ingber defeated Nazareth's Marisa Joyce in the first round (8-2) and Rochester's Yaya Wang in the quarters (8-4). Ajla Karabegovic '21 was the No. 4 seed and advanced to the quarterfinals after she edged Rochester's Bianca Dyer in the first round (9-8).

Eleanor Struthers '22 posted the Continentals' other win in the main singles draw as she took out Ithaca's Rel Klein in the first round of "D" flight (8-3).

Ingber and Jane Haffer '19 were Hamilton's highlight of the weekend in doubles play. The duo advanced to the "B" flight final after they received a bye into the quarterfinals where they defeated a Geneseo pairing (8-5), and then edged William Smith's Leland Barclay and Alex Greenberg in the semis (9-7). Bargamian and Ndanu Mutisya '21 squeaked by St. Lawrence's Marie Bank and Carly Jefferson in the first round (9-8).

Aulicino and Chor were the top doubles seed in the "A" flight bracket. They defeated Nazareth's Joyce and Jackie Lisak in the first round (8-4) and cruised past Rochester's Wang and Abbey Weinhart in the quarters (8-0). They were forced to pull out of their semifinal on Sunday due to Aulicino's injury. Karabegovic and Roberts, who were the No. 3 seed in "A" flight, won three matches and captured the consolation draw crown.

The Continentals compete in the Ithaca Invitational on Sept. 15 and 16.
