Women's swimming and diving defeats SUNY New Paltz

The Hamilton College Continentals finished first in seven swimming events and cruised to a dual meet win against SUNY New Paltz at New Paltz's Elting Pool on Friday night.

Hamilton racked up 126 points to the Hawks' 78 as the Continentals improved their dual meet record to 2-0-1. Hamilton won't hit the pool again until Friday, Dec. 6 when the Continentals compete on the first day of the three-day Worcester Polytechnic Institute Gompei Invitational.

Sam Karlson '23 led Hamilton with victories in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:00.10 and in the 100 free in 55.69 seconds. Patricia Shiebler '21 finished more than 13 seconds ahead of the runner-up in the 1,000 free (11:32.62).

Sadie Logan '20 took the top spot in the 50 free with a time of 25.69 seconds. The top three finishers in the 100 backstroke ended up within about a half-second of each other. Logan was second in 1:01.63 and Lucy Elliott '23 landed in third place (1:01.98).

Karly Leiman '22 touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly (1:02.13) and Lucy Hamann '22 captured first place in the 500 free (5:34.72). Julia Martin '21 edged the runner-up in the 100 breaststroke by one-tenth of a second with a time of 1:10.01. Meredith Gioia '22 finished a close second in the 200 individual medley (2:18.08).
