Hamilton College's Cassie Hayward '19 scored 6:45 into the contest and the Continentals went on to defeat the Utica College Pioneers 1-0 in a non-conference game at Hamilton's Love Field on Sunday afternoon.

Alex Fontana '20 collected the loose ball at the top of the box after a blocked shot by Katie Tenefrancia '19, and as she slipped on the wet turf, tapped the ball up to Hayward for a one-timer inside the far post.

Hamilton (4-3-3 overall) recorded a season-high 38 shots. Fontana totaled four shots on goal and Tenefrancia had three. The Continentals have won the last nine matchups with the Pioneers and control the all-time series record at 25-8-1.

Allison Wagner tallied 18 saves for Utica (5-5-2). Hamilton's Caity Smith '22 stopped both shots fired her way for the first win of her collegiate career.

Hamilton hosts Hartwick College for another non-conference game on Wednesday, Oct. 10 at 4 p.m.
