The Hamilton College Continentals finished in fourth place out of 27 boats in the women's collegiate eights at the 55th Head of the Charles Regatta in Cambridge, Mass., on Sunday afternoon.

The race's top five finishers all competed in the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Rowing Championships in the spring. Hamilton posted a time of 16:55.613 and was in fourth place at all three checkpoints on the course. The Continentals' time was 3:51.607 at Riverside, 9:19.478 at Weld and 14:01.920 at CBC.

"The team's focus has been on maintaining the intensity throughout the race," Head Coach Jim Lister said. "We learned we have the capacity to stay on the speed in the back half of today's race. We were not focusing on the outcome, but to go as fast as possible down the course. We were very pleased to see a fourth place finish position. The Charles is a coxswains course with many bridges and other crews around you and Rachel Sutor had an excellent course through all the bridges."

Bates College captured the gold medal with a time of 16:26.595. Wellesley College was a distant second in 16:47.200 and Worcester Polytechnic Institute edged Hamilton for third place with a time of 16:53.028. Ithaca College rounded out the top five in 17:05.636.

"The rowers are building on the success from last year and we know we have more fitness gains through the winter months," Lister said. "We look forward to bringing the whole team to Philadelphia next weekend for the Head of the Schuylkill for our last race of the season."

The Continentals wrap up their fall season in Philadelphia for the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on Saturday, Oct. 26.
