Women's rowing awarded NCAA championships at-large bid

The Hamilton College Continentals received one of the eight bids to the 2019 NCAA Division III Women's Rowing Championships on Tuesday afternoon.

The championships will be held at the Indianapolis Rowing Center in Indiana on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1. Hamilton received one of the four bids that are awarded to independents, institutions from conferences that do not meet automatic-qualification standards and institutions that did not receive their conference's automatic qualification. The other four bids went to conferences that have been awarded automatic qualification. Bates College earned the automatic bid for the NESCAC.

The Continentals watched the selection show on NCAA.com inside the Blood Fitness Center and when Hamilton was the second team revealed on the screen, it touched off a loud celebration among the student-athletes and coaching staff. Hamilton will make its second appearance in this event. The Continentals finished fourth at the 2015 NCAA championships.

Hamilton's varsity 8 is in a heat with Wellesley College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Pacific Lutheran University. The Continentals are in a heat with Wellesley, Wesleyan University and Ithaca College in the second varsity 8. Hamilton finished in sixth place in the grand final at the 2019 National Invitational Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts, on Sunday.
