The Hamilton College Continentals collected the silver medal in the club championship eights on Saturday at the 2018 Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The rowers faced brutal racing conditions early with rain and 20 mph winds responsible for cancelling the first five events. The weather eventually improved and everyone was able to get in a mostly full day of racing.

The Continentals' top varsity 8 boat came in second out of 50 finishers in the club championship eights with a time of 13:45.605 on the 4,000-meter course, less than half a second behind University of Pennsylvania (13:45.341), and nearly eight seconds ahead of third-place Drexel University (13:53.581). Hamilton reached St. Joe's in 2:55.9, the Tower in 6:36.6, and Angels in 11:02.8. The Continentals' second varsity 8 boat placed 26th with a time of 14:53.363.

The Continentals also had an entry in the college frosh/novice eights that finished 14th out of 29 boats with a time of 16:48.477. Temple University took the gold with a time of 14:31.653.

"It was an emotional day for us, as we dedicated a boat named for Jason P. Andris '96, who passed away unexpectedly last May," Head Coach Rob Weber said. "His widow donated the boat and was on hand for the race. Our women's varsity 8 raced in the shell and finished second. It was the second consecutive year we've medalled at HOSR, so it was really exciting and a great turnaround from their relatively disappointing performance at Head of the Charles."

This regatta marks the end of the fall season for the rowing teams.
