The Hamilton College Continentals finished in 13th place out of 28 boats in the women's collegiate eights race at the 2018 Head of the Charles Regatta on the Charles River in Cambridge, Mass., on Sunday afternoon.

Hamilton recorded a time of 19:45.178 in a steady 25 mph wind with gusts of more than 35 mph. The Continentals reached the Riverside Boat Club in 4:33.6, the Weld Boathouse in 11:10.3 and the Cambridge Boat Club in 16:44.8.

Bates College took the gold medal with a time of 18:18.054. Other NESCAC finishers included Williams College (2nd, 18:38.890), Wesleyan University (6th, 19:15.840), Tufts University B (7th, 19:17.656), Bates B (11th, 19:29.960), Tufts (14th, 19:46.484) and Colby College (18th, 20:00.880).

"The high winds made for tricky racing, and it got the better of our crew," Head Coach Rob Weber said. "The good news is that they did enough to secure a guaranteed entry for next year, but it was not one of their better days.

"It's a young crew, and the conditions really affected them. I probably could've done a better job preparing them mentally to deal with the wind and rough water, but they didn't race with the kind of intensity and sense of urgency that we've seen and that they need to learn how to bring to every race and every stroke. This crew is strong and talented, but the mental side of things is a work in progress. Fortunately, we get a chance to bounce back on Saturday at Head of the Schuylkill -- we'll be ready!"

The Hamilton women will have two boats in the club championship eights and another entry in the novice eights at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia on Saturday, Oct. 27. Racing starts at 8:55 a.m.
