Jake Tyksinski is in his 12th season on the Hamilton College track & field staff as the coach of the throws event athletes. In 2018 one of his athletes earned Division III indoor all-region honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the men's weight throw, finished second in the weight throw at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference indoor championships and set a school record in the event. Another athlete set a team record in the women's hammer throw.

Tyksinski guided an athlete to all-NESCAC honors for finishing second in the women's hammer throw at the 2017 conference outdoor championships. Tyksinski's athletes have set men's school marks in the hammer and the 35-pound weight throw.

Tyksinski guided an athlete to second place in the hammer throw at the 2013 New York State Collegiate Track Conference (NYSCTC) Outdoor Championships -- a performance that earned them all-conference honors.

Another male athlete finished first in the shot put at the 2010 Liberty League Indoor Championships under Tyksinski's guidance. The athlete earned all-league honors for the shot in 2010 and the weight throw in 2011, and he collected indoor honors at the 2010 NYSCTC championships for the shot.

Tyksinski was a four-year letter winner in indoor and outdoor track & field at the University of Rochester where he competed in the javelin, shot put, hammer throw and discus. He qualified for either the indoor or outdoor NYSCTC championship meet five times. He was a team captain as a senior and earned a degree in economics.

Tyksinski was a volunteer throws coach at nearby Clinton High School during the 2007-08 indoor and outdoor seasons. At Clinton, he recorded some of the top performances in school history in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash and the shot put. He competed in track & field for three years and was named the team's most improved performer after his junior indoor season. He finished third in the shot put in New York state's Section III that season. As a senior, he was part of a 400-meter relay that set a Tri-Valley League record and finished fourth at the state championships. He qualified for the sectional championships in both the shot put and the discus.
