SUNY Potsdam scored the first and last goals for a 2-1 non-conference win against the Hamilton College Continentals on Saturday afternoon at Potsdam's Maxcy Ice Arena.

The Continentals (6-3 overall) outshot the Bears 33-19 but went 0-for-7 on the power play. Hamilton edged Potsdam 2-1 in overtime at home just four days ago.

Kate Piacenza '21 scored the fifth goal of her Hamilton career and her second this season with 2:37 left in the first period to tie the score at 1-1 heading into the first intermission. Following an icing call on Potsdam that was waved off, Hamilton's Alayna Trice '20 quickly gathered the puck around the net, passed to Lexi Takashima '22 at the circle, and she found Piacenza breaking out of the zone. Piacenza used her speed to maneuver around the defenders into the offensive end and ripped a shot between the legs of Samantha White (32 saves).

Potsdam (4-5-2) grabbed a one-goal lead 6:41 after the opening faceoff when Shelbi Thacker one-timed a slap shot that brushed off a jersey and snuck past the shoulder of Sammy Johnson '20 (17 saves). Emily Burke and Alexis Clark were credited with the assists.

The Bears were on the power play midway through the second period when Ellie Cleary netted the game-winner. Delphine Leonard and Miranda Kolb picked up the assists as Potsdam shuffled the puck around Hamilton's zone and Cleary tucked the puck inside the upper-left corner at 10:08.

Hamilton returns to action on Friday, Jan. 4 at 4 p.m. against Buffalo State at Saint Michael's College Delta Hotels Burlington Ice Hockey Classic at Cairns Arena in South Burlington, Vt.
