Men's cross country places 10th at Purple Valley Classic

The Hamilton College Continentals finished in 10th place out of 19 teams at the 2019 Williams College Cross Country Purple Valley Classic at Mount Greylock Regional High School in Williamstown, Mass., on Saturday.

Max Steffey '22 led the team in 32nd place out of 228 runners with an 8-kilometer time of 27:26.9. Aidan Ryan of nationally ranked No. 2 Williams finished first with a time of 26:07.3.

Lucas Wright '21 was second for the Continentals in 49th place overall with a time of 27:48.8. Chris Skeldon '20 was next in 83rd place with a time of 28:35.1 and Peter Ross '20 followed in 96th place in 28:46.8. Bryce Murdick '20 finished 105th with a time of 28:58.8 and Brendan Magill '23 landed in 114th place with a time of 29:06.1. Nick Lyon '22 rounded out Hamilton's top seven with a time of 29:14.9.

Hamilton finished with 283 team points while Williams captured the team title with 31 points. No. 10 Massachusetts Institute of Technology was runner-up with 56 points and No. 16 Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute finished third with 91. No. 22 Middlebury College ended up fourth with 145 points and No. 19 Amherst College finished fifth with 162. No. 34 Connecticut College was sixth with 191 points and No. 35 St. Lawrence University finished seventh with 202.

The Continentals will run again on Saturday, Oct. 5, when they host the Hamilton Invitational.
