Hamilton College's Lucas Wright '21 wrapped up his season in Friday's preliminary heats of the men's 800-meter run in the 2019 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, Mass.
Wright placed 17th in the 20-runner field with a time of 1:55.40. His opening lap 200-meter split time was a blistering 27.372 seconds, which was the second-fastest time out of all 20 competitors. He was just 2.08 seconds away from qualifying for Saturday's finals.
Wright was making his first appearance in the national championships in just his second season with the Continentals. His personal-best time of 1:52.83 is less than a second off the school record (1:51.97) set by Peter Kosgei '11, who won the national title in the 800 meters in 2008.
