Successful trip for track and field at Silfen Elite Invitational

The Hamilton College men's and women's track and field teams sent eight competitors to Connecticut College's Silfen Elite Distance Invitational on Friday afternoon and finished in the top 10 in five of its eight events.

In the men's 800-meter run, Lucas Wright '21 placed second in a photo finish. Wright's time of 1:53.09 was just .05 seconds behind the first place finisher from Division II Franklin Pierce University.

Erich Wohl '18 had his own exciting finish in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing .13 seconds shy of second place with a time of 9:40.52.

Hanna Jerome '18 placed seventh (2:18.74) in the women's 800 meters while shaving nearly seven seconds off her season-best time. Grace Heller '19 crossed the finished line at 18:04.22 for eighth place in the women's 5,000-meter run. Brigit Humphreys '21 shortened her season-best time by more than 10 seconds and placed 16th (4:49.18) in the women's 1,500-meter run.

Seniors Peter DeWeirdt '18, Andrew Sinclair '18 and Henry Whipple '18 each recorded the best times of their Hamilton careers. In the men's 5,000-meter run, Whipple placed eighth (14:58.52) and DeWeirdt finished 15th (15:16.07). Sinclair kicked off his senior campaign with a career-best 4:07.08 in the men's 1,500 meters at the University of North Florida Spring Break Invitational on March 23 and improved upon his time for an 11th place finish (4:02.20) on Friday.

The remaining members of both teams will be competing at SUNY Delhi's Bronco Classic Invitational on Saturday. Several field events begin at 10 a.m. and the men's 4x100-meter relay jump-starts the track events at 10:30 a.m.
