Hamilton College's Max Zimmerman '21 won his singles and doubles matches and the Continentals pulled out a 5-4 NESCAC win against the Colby College Mules inside Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House on Saturday.
The Continentals evened their overall and conference records at 1-1. Hamilton travels down to Florida for matches against Colorado College and Illinois Institute of Technology on Wednesday, March 20. The first match starts at 8:30 a.m. at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona.
Zimmerman and doubles partner Danny Tsyvin '22 recorded a team point with a tense victory at the second flight. Zimmerman and Tsyvin have eight wins as a doubles team this season.
Zimmerman dropped the first set in his first flight singles match against Colby's Scott Altmeyer, who is ranked 17th in Division III by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association in men's singles. Zimmerman recovered to win the second set in a tiebreaker and clinched the match by a 7-5 decision in the third set. It was the 20th singles triumph of his collegiate career.
Joe Reiner '22 and Jafar Sharipov '21 also prevailed in three sets in their singles matches at the fifth and sixth flights, respectively. Reiner leads the Continentals with nine singles victories this season and Sharipov picked up his first.
Tim Derby '21 was a winner in straight sets at fourth flight singles and evened his singles record at 5-5 this season.
