Men's squash edged by Cal at national team championships

The Hamilton College Continentals dropped a 5-4 decision against the University of California, Berkeley in the Chaffee Cup third place match of the 2019 College Squash Association National Team Championships at Wesleyan University's Rosenbaum Squash Center on Sunday.

Hamilton (4-14 overall) defeated Georgetown in the Chaffee Cup quarterfinals on Friday before falling to Fordham in the semifinals on Saturday. The Continentals are 35th in the Dunlop College Squash Rankings while Cal is ranked 33rd.

Callum Sondhi '20, Tristan Chaix '20 and Oliver Constable '22 won all three of their matches over the course of the weekend. Sondhi swept his opponent in three games at the first position for his eighth victory this season and the 28th of his Hamilton career. Chaix didn't lose a game at the fourth position as he collected his seventh win this season and the 27th of his career. Constable was edged 12-10 in the second game at the fifth position, but he closed out the match by scores of 11-9 and 11-6 in the next two games for his sixth triumph this season.

Rufus Somerby '22 earned the Continentals' other team point with a win in three games at the third position. Somerby clinched his victory by an exciting 13-11 decision in the third game. He ended up tied with Sondhi for the team lead in wins with eight.
