Hamilton College's Luke Eckels '20 (Ridgewood, N.J./Ridgewood HS) was selected for the 2019 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-Region Team on Monday, Dec. 16.

Men's Scholar All-East Region Team

Eckels was voted to the second team and was one of 35 student-athletes honored in the East Region. He is on the scholar all-region team for the second year in a row. Eligible student-athletes must meet the following criteria:  3.30 cumulative grade point average or better throughout their career, started more than 50 percent of their team's games and be a significant contributor, nominated by head coach of current College Services member institution and at least a junior in academic standing.

The 6-foot, 2-inch center back already made the United Soccer Coaches all-New England Region team and the all-NESCAC team earlier this fall. Eckels led the defense from his center back position as he started all 16 matches. Hamilton posted seven shutouts and allowed one goal three times. During a stretch of seven matches from late September to mid-October, the Continentals surrendered just one goal. Eckels was a two-time team captain and four-year starter who finished with five points in 67 career matches at Hamilton.

Eckels helped lead the Continentals (6-8-2, 3-5-2 NESCAC) to a NESCAC championship quarterfinal appearance for the fourth year in a row. The Continentals went 4-4-0 in the conference championship during his career and made it to the final for the first time in 2016. Hamilton tied eventual 2019 national champion Tufts University 1-1 on Oct. 13.
