Amherst College's German Giammattei scored two of his three goals in the first half and the nationally ranked No. 2/6 Mammoths defeated the Hamilton College Continentals 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Hamilton's Love Field.

Giammattei scored his first of the game in the 22nd minute. Cutler Coleman maneuvered between the defenders down the right sideline and passed ahead to Dane Lind at the top of the box. Lind passed across to Giammattei charging in from the left side and the sophomore forward one-timed a shot past Thomas Benson '22 (4 saves).

Amherst (4-0-0, 2-0 NESCAC) had a 2-0 lead at the break after Giammattei headed in a cross out of the right corner from Jimmy McMillian at 33:32. The Mammoths concluded the scoring early in the second half when Lind drew a foul inside the penalty box and Giammattei fired his penalty kick into the left side of the goal with 42:50 left.

The Continentals' (1-3-0, 0-2) best chance to score was in the 57th minute. Jose Torres '20 controlled the ball down the right sideline and launched a cross into the middle of the box. Aidan Wood '20 elevated for a header try before Bernie White (3 saves) punched the ball out to the top of the box where Spencer Royal '22 was waiting. Royal lofted a shot towards the open net but Andrew Barkidjija headed the ball away at the goal line.

Hamilton travels to Middlebury College on Saturday, Sept. 21 for a NESCAC game at noon.
