Amherst College's Luke Nguyen scored in the 34th minute and the Mammoths posted a 1-0 NESCAC win over Hamilton College on Saturday afternoon at Amherst's Hitchcock Field.

Hamilton's (6-5, 3-4 NESCAC) last four contests have been 1-0 decisions and 10 of the Continentals 11 games this season have been decided by one goal.

Thomas Benson '22 made seven saves for Hamilton. Jefri Schmidt '20 accounted for half of the six saves by Amherst (6-3, 3-3) goalkeeper Bernie White. Benson now tops the NESCAC leaderboard with 45 saves through seven appearances (633+ minutes) this season. He also ranks second with a .900 save percentage.

Following a high energy back-and-forth start to the match, the Continentals looked to break the scoreless draw at the 17:59 mark. In nearly identical plays one minute apart, Greg Milnarik '19 and Schmidt each fired point-blank shots from the penalty hash, but White made diving stops on both attempts.

Tallying what stood as the lone marker of the contest, Nguyen posted the game-winner with 10:13 left in the first half with an assist from Bryce Johnson. Johnson delivered a flip throw into the box from the left sideline and Nguyen snuck a header past Benson.

Hamilton hosts SUNY Polytechnic on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 4:30 p.m. in non-conference action on Love Field.
