Sam Dils '22 scored the second goal of his young Hamilton College career on Saturday afternoon, leading the Continentals to a 1-0 overtime NESCAC victory over the Wesleyan University Cardinals at Wesleyan's Jackson Field.
Hamilton improves to 5-3 overall and 3-2 in conference play while Wesleyan (2-5 overall) drops to 1-3 in the NESCAC.
Five minutes and 59 seconds into the first sudden death overtime period, Noah Giovannelli '21 was at the back post when he headed a cross into the box and Dils one-timed the ball into the upper left corner of the goal to win the game.
The Cardinals had a chance to get on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute when Sam Serxner served a corner kick into the penalty box. Wesleyan's Cameron Park ripped a shot on goal, but Thomas Benson '22 came up big with a save. Benson finished the afternoon with nine stops for his first collegiate shutout.
Hamilton's best opportunity in regulation came in the 61st minute when Roth Wetzel '22 fed the ball through to Aidan Wood '20 from midfield. Wood was one-on-one with the Cardinal keeper, Chris Franklin, but Franklin forced Wood outside and his shot went just wide right of the goal.
