The Hamilton College Continentals finished in ninth place in the club championship eights on Saturday at the 2018 Head of the Schuylkill Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

The rowers faced brutal racing conditions early with rain and 20 mph winds responsible for cancelling the first five events including the college frosh/novice 4+, an event in which a Hamilton boat was entered. The weather eventually improved and everyone was able to get in a mostly full day of racing.

The Continentals' varsity 8 came in ninth out of 44 finishers in the club championship eights with a time of 12:42.139 on the 4,000-meter race course. Hamilton reached St. Joe's in 2:38.2, the Tower in 6:02 and Angels in 10:09.9. University of Pennsylvania Crew captured first place with a time of 12:07.507. The Continentals' second varsity 8 placed 26th with a time of 13:22.987.

"The morning conditions were nasty and the first five events were cancelled, including our men's novice 4+, which was unfortunate," Head Coach Rob Weber said. "But things improved, and we got in some good racing. Our men continued a hot streak at HOSR. It's thrilling to see them compete right alongside crews from places like Navy, Virginia and Drexel. The men's team has come such a long way!"

This regatta marks the end of the fall season for the rowing teams.
