The Hamilton College Continentals took on Colgate University and Clarkson University in the Bridge to Bridge Regatta on the Erie Canel in Rome, N.Y., on Saturday morning.

The varsity 8 races measured 6.6 kilometers while the other races measured 4 kilometers. Rowers faced a moderate tailwind that got stronger as the morning progressed.

Hamilton slipped behind Colgate University in the varsity 8 with a time of 22:18.9, which was 78 seconds behind Colgate's winning time of 21:00.7. Hamilton's second varsity 8 posted a time of 23:43.7.

The Continentals had greater success in the varsity 4 coming in 2.4 seconds ahead of Colgate with a time of 14:21.6. The Continentals' second varsity 4 finished in 14:44.7.

In the mixed 8, a race for boats of novices and young experienced rowers, Hamilton posted a time of 15:05.3. Clarkson finished first in 13:52.7.

"Three wins on the day is a good showing, especially in two fours who never practiced together, so it was a solid start to the season," said head coach Rob Weber. "Things are going to kick up a notch over the next few weeks, though, so we need to crank up the intensity and the focus on getting better. It'll be fun!"

Hamilton will return to the water on Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Head of the Genesee in Rochester, N.Y.
