Brochu ’19 nets 30th career goal in men’s hockey setback

Jason Brochu '19 scored the 30th goal of his Hamilton College career in a 5-2 non-conference loss against the Skidmore College Thoroughbreds at Clinton Arena on Sunday night.

Skidmore (7-5-1 overall) jumped out to a 2-0 lead after one period on goals by Mike Gelatt and Paul Vella at 18:04 and 19:24, respectively.

Brochu cut Hamilton's deficit in half just 1:30 into the second stanza. Nick Ursitti '20 grabbed the puck out of the corner and passed to Bennett Morrison '20 at the point. Morrison sent the puck towards the net and Brochu backhanded it past Brian Kowalski (44 saves). Brochu leads the team with five goals and nine points and has 61 points through 86 career games.

Jordi Jefferson '22 followed with a power-play goal that tied the score at 5:45 of the second. The Continentals (4-4-1) moved the puck around the offensive zone where Joey Moore '22 found Morrison at the point for a one-timer that Jefferson tipped into the nylon.  

The Thoroughbreds responded with two more goals later in the period and sealed the win on an empty-netter by Tim Allen with 49 seconds left in the third. Avery Steele's power-play goal served as the game-winner as he ripped a low shot inside the back post at 8:18 of the second. Hamilton's Anthony Tirabassi '20 finished with 30 saves.

The Continentals and Thoroughbreds face off again at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 31 at the Saratoga Springs Ice Rink in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
