John Geissinger

John Geissinger

John Geissinger was selected as the Hamilton College head men's and women's swimming and diving coach in May 2017. In 2022 he coached Sam Karlson '23 to all-America honors in the women's 100-yard freestyle. Karlson competed in the 2022 NCAA Division III Championships in three freestyle events and finished in first place in the consolation final (ninth place overall) of the 100 free.

Hamilton Head Coach (2017-present)

  • Coached men's and women's swimmers to 12 team records that have been broken 18 times
  • Five NCAA 'B' cuts achieved
  • 140 new all-time top 10 performances
  • Women's swimmer was a 2022 honorable mention all-American for the 100 free
  • 22 swimmers and divers on the 2022 NESCAC Winter All-Academic Team
  • Men's swimmer earned 2018 all-NESCAC team honors (200-yard breaststroke)
  • Men's and women's teams have collected College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America awards nine out of 10 semesters
  • Guided the women's team to the 2018 Hamilton Invitational title 


Arcadia University Head Coach and Aquatics Director (2013-17)

  • Improved its standing in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) swimming championships each of his last three seasons
  • In 2017 the men and the women landed in third place, which was the best finish in either team's history
  • Coached the 2017 MAC Women's Swimming Rookie of the Year
  • School records were broken more than 120 times
  • Program racked up seven CSCAA Scholar All-America Team honors.


Washington & Lee University Assistant Coach (2010-13)

  • Recruiting coordinator and sprint coach for the men's and women's teams
  • Women captured three Old Dominion Athletic Conference team titles
  • Helped guide 19 NCAA Division III championship qualifiers to 21 all-America performances


Student-athlete at Denison University (2005-09)

  • 22-time all-American
  • Helped Denison finish second in the men's team standings at the NCAA Division III championships in 2006 and 2007 and third in 2008 and 2009
  • Part of national champion 800 free relays in 2007, 2008 and 2009, and the 400 free relay in 2007
  • Selected the North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Men's Swimmer of the Year in 2009
  • Denison was the 2009 NCAC men's team champion
  • Finished his career with three individual and nine relay NCAC titles
  • As of 2016, still held school and conference records in the 100 free and was part of the program-record 400 free relay
  • Degree in history
