Beitler ’21 scores but No. 14 field hockey falls at No. 9 Rochester

The University of Rochester's Nancy Bansbach scored twice and the nationally ranked No. 9 Yellowjackets posted a 3-1 non-conference win against the No. 14 Hamilton College Continentals at Rochester's Fauver Stadium on Wednesday night.

Hamilton concludes the regular season with a 10-5 overall record. The Continentals will enter the 2018 NESCAC Field Hockey Championship as the No. 4 seed and will host fifth-seeded Trinity College (11-4 overall) at Goodfriend Field in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Oct. 27. This marks the second straight year that Hamilton and Trinity will meet in the opening round of the conference championship.

Rochester (16-1) jumped out to a three-goal lead after back-to-back goals by Bansbach in the 14th and 16th minutes, and Courtney Dunham made the score 3-0 in the 18th minute. Amanda Guido, Leona Fisher and Maya Haigis all picked up assists for the Yellowjackets.

Maddie Beitler '21 put Hamilton on the scoreboard at the 22:46 mark of the opening half with her sixth career goal to round out the scoring. Michaela Giuttari '20 received credit for the assist, increasing her career point total to 114. Giuttari ranks second in the NESCAC with 16 goals and 39 points.

The Continentals outshot the home squad 11-2 and had a 7-1 edge in penalty corners in the second half alone, but Rochester's Kate Kujawa (10 saves) managed to keep Hamilton scoreless in the final 35 minutes. Julia Booth '19 finished the contest with two saves.
