Josh Miller is in his sixth year with the Hamilton College coaching staff as the defensive coordinator and he also oversees the secondary. The Continentals led the NESCAC in interceptions and one of Miller's defensive backs made the all-conference team in 2018. He has coached five all-NESCAC team selections on defense.
In 2017 Miller coached two all-NESCAC team selections including a linebacker who made the first team, and one of his defensive backs was placed on the second team. A defensive lineman made the all-NESCAC first team in 2016, and in 2015 three of Miller's players finished in the top 10 on the NESCAC's total sacks list. Miller guided one player to all-conference, D3football.com all-region and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III all-star teams on defense in 2014.
Before coming to Clinton, Miller spent five seasons at Alfred University, including three as the program's head junior varsity coach. His responsibilities with the Saxons included coaching the linebackers, defensive linemen and defensive backs.
During Miller's time at Alfred, the Saxons made two NCAA playoff appearances (2009, 2010) and played in three ECAC postseason games (2011-13). He coached players who earned all-conference recognition seven times, all-region accolades twice and all-America honors once. In 2013, Alfred's defense ranked 16th in Division III in turnovers forced and fifth in interceptions thanks in part to Miller.
Miller graduated from St. Lawrence University where he played four seasons for the Saints. He started at outside linebacker and made the Liberty League all-academic team three times. He earned his bachelor's degree in history and his master's degree is from Alfred. Miller resides in New Hartford with his wife Brittany and his son EJ.
