Baseball places two players on all-NESCAC team

Hamilton College's Ethan Wallis '21 (New York, N.Y./Poly Prep Country Day School) and Gavin Schaefer-Hood '21 (State College, Pa./State College Area HS) were selected for the 2019 NESCAC Baseball All-Conference Team on Wednesday, May 15.

Wallis and Schaefer-Hood were voted to the second team and both are receiving all-conference honors for the first time. They are two of 23 players on the all-NESCAC team.

Wallis played in 30 of the Continentals' 32 games and started 29 of them as the team's regular center fielder. He's fourth in the NESCAC with a .477 on-base percentage and .553 slugging percentage, and is eighth in batting average at .359 with 37 hits in 103 at-bats. He's also tied for second in the conference with five triples and is 10th with 22 walks and 11th with 12 stolen bases.

Schaefer-Hood made 10 appearances on the mound including seven starts and finished with a 7-2 record. He is tied for second in the NESCAC and set a program single-season record with those seven wins. He's eighth in the conference with a 2.84 earned run average and ninth with 50.2 innings pitched. He struck out 27 batters and walked 14, and opponents posted a batting average of .268 against him. At the plate Schaefer-Hood went 13-for-35 for a .371 batting average with four doubles and seven walks. He had a .489 on-base percentage and .486 slugging percentage. In the field he made just two errors in 83 total chances for a .976 fielding percentage.

Hamilton finished the season with a 16-16 record and ended up tied for fourth place in the NESCAC West Division at 5-7. The Continentals lead the conference with 25 sacrifice bunts and are third with 64 stolen bases.
