Hamilton College travels to Hartford, Conn. on Thursday, May 3 for a make-up NESCAC West Division baseball game against Amherst College. The contest, originally scheduled for May 6, will be played at Trinity College's Murren Family Field/DiBenedetto Stadium at 6:30 p.m.
The Mammoths won the doubleheader portion of the three-game series back on March 31 in Amherst, Mass. by scores of 5-4 (9 innings) and 10-9.
Hamilton (16-17 overall, 3-8 NESCAC West) scored five runs in the ninth inning to win the 31st annual Jackie Robinson Game against its crosstown rivals, the Utica College Pioneers, on Tuesday.
Matt Zaffino '21 holds a .348 batting average with 20 runs batted in, and he ranks top 10 in the NESCAC in on-base percentage (.487), slugging percentage (.618), home runs (3), triples (4), runs (29) and walks (26). Jarrett Lee '21 is hitting .304 with a .429 on-base percentage, .402 slugging percentage and seven stolen bases. Ian Nish '19 picked up his first career win on the pitching mound against Utica. Nish holds a .045 earned run average and tied a program-record back on April 24 with his sixth save of the season.
Amherst (19-10, 6-2) is first in the NESCAC West Division standings and Hamilton is fifth, with the top two teams in each division qualifying for the NESCAC Championship. Wednesday's game will conclude the 2018 season for the Continentals.
Led by Andrew Ferrero (2.19 ERA), the Amherst pitching staff guides the NESCAC with a 3.66 ERA. The Mammoths also lead the conference with a combined .310 batting average, and they rank second in slugging percentage (.416) and third in on-base percentage (.399). Ariel Kenney (.420/.496/.670) is one of the top hitters in the conference with 21 RBIs, 11 doubles and four home runs.
