The Hamilton College baseball team hosts Middlebury College for a NESCAC West Division three-game series at Loop Road Baseball/Softball Complex this weekend. The teams face off in a single game on Friday at 4 p.m. and a noon doubleheader on Saturday.
Hamilton (15-14 overall, 3-5 NESCAC West) kicked off the week with two non-conference wins against nationally ranked No. 6/8 SUNY Cortland and St. Lawrence University. The Continentals enter the weekend fourth in the NESCAC West standings and Middlebury is fifth with the top two teams in each division qualifying for the NESCAC Championship.
Matt Zaffino '21 (.372/.514/.667) leads the NESCAC in on-base percentage, triples (4) and walks (25), and his slugging percentage ranks him third. Jarrett Lee '21 is batting .303 with a .436 on-base percentage, .408 slugging percentage and seven stolen bases. Craig Sandford '19 has a .275 batting average with 12 runs batted in. Mike Borek '18 earned the win against Cortland and holds a 1.53 earned run average in 17.2 innings pitched. Ian Nish '19 tied a program record with his sixth save of the season against St. Lawrence.
Middlebury (10-13, 2-4) has won four straight, including a three-game sweep over NESCAC East opponent Bowdoin College. The Panthers' top hitters are Justin Han (.373/.510/.467) and Hayden Smith (.373/.436/.433). Han has 15 runs batted in and tops the conference with 15 stolen bases. Brooks Carroll is batting .287 with six doubles, 11 RBIs and 12 stolen bases. Colby Morris is fourth in the NESCAC with a 2.09 ERA and he averages 7.80 strikeouts per nine innings.
