Baseball hosts No. 6/8 Cortland for non-conference game

The Hamilton College baseball team hosts SUNY Cortland for a single nine-inning game at Loop Road Baseball/Softball Complex on Monday, April 23 at 4:14 p.m.

Hamilton (13-14 overall) wrapped up a three game NESCAC series at Williams College with a 4-1 loss on Sunday after splitting the Saturday doubleheader. The Continentals lead the NESCAC with 18 triples and is second with 37 walks this season.

Matt Zaffino '21 hits .392 with a .510 on-base percentage and .703 slugging percentage. Zaffino has contributed 19 runs batted in, 13 extra-base hits and 20 walks. Jarrett Lee '21 bats .303 with four doubles and seven stolen bases. James Nish '19 has 13 RBIs and Craig Sandford '19 has 12.

Brian Lawson '20 ranks fifth in the NESCAC with a 2.20 earned run average through 28.2 innings pitched. Gavin Schaefer-Hood '21 also ranks fifth with an average of 8.64 strikeouts per nine innings. Closer Ian Nish '19 picked up his fifth save of the season against Williams on Saturday.

Cortland (28-7) -- nationally ranked sixth by D3baseball.com Top 25 poll and eighth by the American Baseball Coaches Association Division III Top 30 poll -- had its 20-game winning streak snapped with a 8-6 loss at SUNY New Paltz on Sunday. The Red Dragon are first in the SUNYAC standings.

Joe Tardif guides the team in batting average (.407), on-base percentage (.522) and slugging percentage (.556). Antonio Pragana hits .398 and Colin BeVard hits .324 with 10 stolen bases. Justin Teague (.359/.396/.533) and Patrick Schetter (.353/.392/.481) both have three home runs and combine for 65 RBIs.

 The pitching staff holds a 2.07 ERA. Mike Harrington has a perfect 7-0 record on the mound with a 1.87 ERA and 48 strikeouts through 53 innings. Matt Valin comes out of the bullpen with an average over 16 strikeouts per nine innings.
