The Hamilton College baseball team welcomes Bates College for a single nine-inning game at Loop Road Baseball/Softball Complex on Tuesday, April 17 at 4 p.m.
The Continentals (12-11 overall) are 2-3 in NESCAC West Division play while the Bobcats are 8-11 on the season with a 3-3 mark in the NESCAC East Division.
Hamilton has won six of its last eight games, which includes a NESCAC West series victory over Wesleyan University this past weekend. The Continentals posted a 3-2 victory on Friday night and split Saturday's doubleheader, winning the opener 5-1 and falling 9-4 in the second game.
Matt Zaffino '21 leads Hamilton with 19 runs batted in, and he is one of the top offensive producers in the NESCAC with a .394 batting average, .494 on-base percentage and .742 slugging percentage. Jarrett Lee '21 is hitting .349 with six stolen bases. James Nish '19 (.238/.320/.524) has 11 RBIs. Nish and Zaffino pace the conference with four triples each.
Gavin Schaefer-Hood '21 pitched a complete game in Hamilton's 5-1 win on Saturday as he allowed one run on three hits and two walks and he struck out seven batters. In 28.1 innings of work this season, Schaefer-Hood boasts a 3.81 earned run average and leads the staff with 27 strikeouts. Brian Lawson '20 holds a 2.38 ERA through 22.2 innings. Ian Nish '19 has four saves and 13 strikeouts in 12.2 innings.
Bates is coming off a doubleheader split against Williams -- a member of the NESCAC West Division -- on Saturday. The Bobcats opened their season with six straight losses but have won five of the last seven contests.
Dan Trulli (.267/.282/.400) leads Bates with 20 hits, two home runs and 18 RBIs. Jack Arend leads the team with 17 walks and four doubles. The Bobcats pitchers are second in the NESCAC with a 4.09 ERA. Connor Russell has pitched 39.1 innings with a 3.20 ERA, and Jake Shapiro has three saves and averages over 13 strikeouts per nine innings.
