Baseball hosts Wesleyan for NESCAC West series

The Hamilton College baseball team hosts Wesleyan University for a NESCAC West Division three-game series at Loop Road Baseball/Softball Complex this weekend. The teams face off in a single game on Friday at 4 p.m. and a noon doubleheader on Saturday. 

The Continentals sit at 10-10 overall (0-2 NESCAC) after winning four of their last five games. Matt Zaffino '21 is one of the top hitters in the NESCAC while batting .429 with a .528 on-base percentage and .821 slugging percentage. Jarrett Lee '21 is hitting .370 with six extra-base hits and six stolen bases. James Nish '20 has a .263 batting average with 11 runs batted in and four triples. Ian Nish '19 leads the pitching staff (4.65 ERA) with a 0.77 earned run average and three saves. Gavin Schaefer-Hood '21 averages over eight strikeouts per nine innings.

Wesleyan (13-6 overall) has won five straight, including a three-game NESCAC sweep over Middlebury College last weekend. The Cardinals are one of the top hitting squads in the conference with eighth players batting over .300. Tanner Fulkerson (.338/.412/.493) tops the NESCAC with 26 RBIs and Matt Jeye (.309/.443/.456) is second with 23 RBIs. Chase Pratt leads the team with a .659 slugging percentage and two home runs. Kelvin Sosa paces the NESCAC with a 1.16 ERA and averages nearly 12 strikeouts per nine innings.
