The Hamilton College baseball team travels to Cortland, N.Y. for a single non-conference game against the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons on Tuesday, April 3 at 3:30 p.m.
Hamilton (6-9 overall) is coming off two one-run setbacks by scores of 5-4 and 10-9 in a doubleheader against NESCAC-opponent Amherst College on Saturday afternoon. The first game went into extra innings after the score was tied 4-4 after seven. The Continentals had won six in a row going into the weekend.
Matt Zaffino '21 leads the NESCAC with a .892 slugging percentage and three home runs, and he ranks top-five in batting average (.405), on-base percentage (.520), doubles (5), triples (2), runs batted in (15), total bases (33) and walks (11). Jarrett Lee '21 is second on the team with a .395 batting average and has a team-high four stolen bases.
The Continentals' pitching staff averages nearly seven strikeouts per nine innings and have an earned run average of 5.09. Ian Nish '19 comes out of the bullpen with a 1.04 ERA and has three saves.
Cortland (16-6) leads the SUNYAC with an 8-1 conference record and have won eight straight after sweeping Oneonta 11-1 and 5-2 on Saturday. The Red Dragons are ranked 14th in the D3baseball.com Top 25 poll and 15th in the American Baseball Coaches Association Division III Top 30 poll.
Cortland's top hitters are Matthew Personius (.386/.431/.500), Antonio Pragana (.385/.439/.442) and Marcos Perivolaris (.378/.439/.568). Patrick Schetter hits .366 with 22 runs batted in and 10 extra base hits, including two homeruns. Colin Bevard has walked 20 times and has nine stolen bases. The Red Dragon pitchers have a 2.46 ERA and average over eight strikeouts per nine innings.
