Baseball home opener is set for Sunday

The Hamilton College baseball team hosts SUNY Canton on Sunday, March 25 for a non-conference doubleheader at Loop Road Baseball Complex. Game one begins at 12:30 p.m. and game two will begin at approximately 3 p.m.

Hamilton (4-7 overall) is riding a four-game winning streak after posting a 9-8 victory against Worcester State University in Auburndale, Fla on March 22. The Continentals have found their swing as of late, scoring 36 runs in the past four games compared to 13 runs in their first seven.

Matt Zaffino '21 is hitting .333 with 11 runs batted in, two homeruns, one triple and three doubles. Craig Sandford '19 leads the way with a .364 batting average and .500 on base percentage. Jarrett Lee '21 and Jordan Northrup '19 have two stolen bases apiece. The Continentals' pitching staff averages nearly seven strikeouts per nine innings and have an earned run average of 5.10.

Canton (3-8) is coming off a 10-inning 7-6 loss at Wells College on March 22. The Roos opened the season with four consecutive losses to New York University and Southern Virginia University before picking up their first win against Gallaudet University in Port Charlotte, Fla. on March 12.

Wilson Matos guides the Roos in batting average (.447), slugging percentage (.617), on base percentage (.500) and triples (3). Collin Lynk is batting .324 with 12 RBIs, and Brandon Bautista has hit a couple homeruns with a .583 slugging percentage. The Roos top pitcher is Jake Vierno, who averages seven strikeouts per nine innings.
