Hamilton pounds Keene State 11-1 for first baseball win

The Hamilton College baseball team picked up its first win of the season Thursday, routing Keene State 11-1 in Leesburg, Fla.

The Continentals (1-2 overall) pounded out seven extra-base hits in a game that was shortened to seven innings.

Callum Slater '20 and Finlay O'Hara '17 combined for a two-hitter and Dean Rosenberg '18 singled, doubled and homered to pace Hamilton's 14-hit attack.

Andrew Haser '17 had two hits and drove in two runs; Jordan Northrup '19, Chris Collins '17 and Ian Nish '19 had two hits apiece.

Slater held the Owls (5-5) to a hit and an unearned run over six innings in his first career start. He struck out seven and allowed just one hit – a leadoff single in the third.

Haser and Brett Mele '17 both hit two-run doubles in Hamilton's five-run sixth inning.

The Continentals scored twice in the second with Nish and Sam Rowley '20 hitting consecutive RBI singles. Rosenberg doubled and Collins bunted for a hit then stole second to start the inning.

Northrup doubled in a run in the fourth, then scored on a two-out infield error.

An inning later, Rosenberg and Collins hit back-to-back solo home runs. The homers were Hamilton's first of the season and the third in both players' careers.

Keene State's only run came in the sixth when John Tarascio, who'd reached base on a dropped third strike, scored on a wild pitch.

The Continentals are back in action Friday, taking on Dickinson College in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader in Auburndale, Fla.
