CLINTON, N.Y. -- Women's swimmer Jade Matthias '26 (Reading, Pa./Mercersburg Academy) and men's golfer Ramon Aroca Gonzalez '26 (Madrid, Spain/Hastings School) were honored as Hamilton College's top athletes from the Class of 2026 at the Jack B. Riffle Celebration for senior varsity athletes on Tuesday, May 19.

The Riffle Awards have been presented annually since 1987 to the top male and female athlete in Hamilton's senior class. Riffle graduated from Hamilton in 1950 and passed away on Dec. 13, 1986. A group of Riffle's friends and associates established a memorial fund in his name because of his deep interest in Hamilton athletics.

Matthias was the first Riffle winner from the women's swimming and diving team since Maggie Rosenbaum in 2014. Matthias was a four-time all-American as she earned three awards for being part of the 200-yard freestyle relay and another for the 100 backstroke, and she qualified for the NCAA championships all four years. Matthias earned all-NESCAC team honors in 2024 and 2026, and led the Continentals to a national ranking during the 2025-26 season. She holds two individual team records, is part of three relay team records and owns one Bristol Pool record. Matthias is on the team's top 10 times list in six events.

Aroca Gonzalez was the fourth Riffle winner from the men's golf team in 40 years. He was a three-time honorable mention all-American, a four-time all-region selection and a member of the 2023 Golf Coaches Association of America Division III All-Freshman Team. Aroca Gonzalez made the all-NESCAC first team all four years, was the conference's Golfer of the Year in 2023 and 2025, and the 2023 NESCAC Rookie of the Year. He never finished worse than a tie for sixth place in the conference championship. Aroca Gonzalez, who was selected to compete in the 2025 NCAA championship as an individual, captured first place or tied for first in 10 tournaments and recorded 22 top-five finishes.

Softball utility player Hadley Rogers '26 (Wallingford, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) and men's squash player Jacob Shulman '26 (Needham, Mass./Needham HS) received the Jean-Marius Gelas Memorial Awards. The Gelas Awards are presented annually to a male and female senior student-athlete who has displayed outstanding development in sportsmanship, leadership, character and athletic ability during their college years.

Rogers was one of two players who started all 37 games in 2026 after playing in 11 games as a first-year athlete. She finished in the team's top three in five offensive categories and was a team captain her senior year. Rogers earned a spot on the NESCAC spring all-academic team twice and helped her team reach the 2024 NESCAC championship quarterfinals.

"Hadley is the type of student-athlete that coaches want to show off to the Hamilton community," Head Coach Stephanie Hartquist said. "She is a dedicated student, a loyal teammate, and a fierce competitor who maintains the highest standards of sportsmanship. She has grown more in four years than any athlete I have ever seen."

Shulman was a team captain as a junior and a senior and a two-time College Squash Association scholar-athlete award recipient. He made the 2026 NESCAC Winter All-Sportsmanship Team and earned a spot on the NESCAC winter all-academic team three times. Shulman helped his team reach the 2026 Summers Cup final at the national divisional team championships and helped guide the Continentals to the 2023 and 2026 NESCAC championship tournament. He moved up from the seventh position on the ladder as a first-year to the first or second position by his junior season.

"Jacob worked extremely hard to improve his game and moved up the ladder while emerging as a leader on the team," Head Coach Erin Robson said. "He continued to improve his game in every season and every off-season, competing fiercely in every match, and his intensity and commitment positioned the team to pull off a major upset for a championship. He led the team to several key wins and an improved national ranking in the 2025-26 season. He played a major role with following up with recruits, worked as a tour guide for admissions, and is an entrepreneur with Trivium Venture Network."

Women's cross country and track & field athlete Taylor Harris '26 (New York, N.Y./Convent of the Sacred Heart) and men's swimmer Sebastian van Wanroy '26 (Waterloo, Belgium/Onze-Lieve-Vrouwinstituut) received the Milton H. Jannone Awards. The Jannone Awards have been presented annually since 2009 to a male and female senior athlete who exhibit outstanding athleticism, leadership and academic accomplishment.

Harris qualified to compete in the NCAA cross country championships all four years and was a four-time, all-region honoree for cross country. She earned 2023 all-NESCAC cross country team recognition and made the NESCAC all-academic team eight times. Harris won the 3,000-meter run at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Indoor Championships and the 10,000-meter run at the outdoor championships her senior year. She was a Division III all-academic athlete for cross country all four years and a 2025 and 2026 Hamilton SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award recipient. Harris was a member of the 2025 NESCAC Fall All-Sportsmanship Team, and will graduate with a double major in economics and French.

A three-time member of the NESCAC winter all-academic team, van Wanroy was part of a team relay record and qualified for the finals in three events at the 2026 NESCAC championship. He made the team's top 10 times list in three events and was a team captain his senior year. The 2025-26 Hamilton SAAC Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the men's swimming and diving team will be continuing his studies next year at Tufts University and pursuing a Ph.D. in chemistry.

Field hockey player Becky Felker '26 (Bethesda, Md./Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart) received the Jon Hind '80 Buff and Blue Award in honor of the former Hamilton student-athlete, assistant coach and director of athletics. The recipient embodies the highest ideals of being a Hamilton Continental through leadership, sportsmanship, outstanding citizenship, selfless service to the community, and extracurricular engagement during their student-athlete experience.

Felker led her team in goals and points and helped lead Hamilton to a 12-6 record and the highest national ranking in program history at number seven her senior year. She helped guide the Continentals to three NESCAC championship appearances and the second round of the 2025 NCAA championship. Felker scored the first goal in a 2-1 overtime win against SUNY Geneseo in the first round of the 2025 NCAA championship. She was a team captain and a member of the NESCAC fall all-sportsmanship team her senior year.
