ITHACA, N.Y. – The Hamilton College Continentals finished third in the varsity 8 against Ithaca College and William Smith College in the Cayuga Duals at Cayuga Inlet on Saturday, March 29.
 
Nationally ranked No. 6 host Ithaca was the varsity 8 race winner with a time of 7:39 on the 2,000-meter course. No. 13 William Smith was the runner-up in 7:52.5 and No. 9 Hamilton was next with a time of 8:07.3.
 
Racing conditions included temperatures in the low 40s with rain on and off. Winds were calm for the third varsity 8 and then quickly built to a cross headwind of 7-to-9 mph. There was little to no flow and very low water with narrow lanes.
 
The order of finish in the second varsity eight was the same as the varsity eight with Ithaca first (7:46.9), William Smith second (7:50.3) and the Continentals third (8:09.3). Hamilton and William Smith had a minor blade clash during the first half of the race.
 
Hamilton took the top spot in the third varsity eight (7:24) followed by William Smith (7:36.5) and Ithaca (7:43.8). The Continentals (9:29.52) also edged Ithaca (9:36.99) in the third varsity four.
 
Hamilton races on Lake Quinsigamond with host Clark University and Connecticut College on Saturday, April 5.
