NORTHAMPTON, Mass. - The Hamilton College Continentals posted an impressive 5-2 win against the Smith College Pioneers on Saturday, Sept. 28 in Hamilton's first dual match of the 2024-25 season.
The Continentals played with the Intercollegiate Tennis Association seven-point scoring system for dual matches for the first time. Rather than each doubles victory counting as one team point, the team that wins the majority of the three doubles matches earns one point.
Hamilton collected that doubles team point, winning two out of the three matches.
Hannah Apsey '25 and
Stephanie Pratt '25 took the first flight victory over Smith's Clara Goshgarian and Lili Goshgarian, 6-4. It was their 20th career win as a doubles team with the Continentals.
Grace Qian '27 and
Ally Turtledove '25 picked up the third flight doubles win over Smith's Sabrina Wang and Marielle Sauber, 6-4.
Hamilton remained in control for the rest of the competition, winning four singles matches in straight sets. The two singles matches the Continentals dropped were extended to a third set super-tiebreaker.
Apsey bested Smith's Ayla Hauser at first flight, 6-4 and 6-4. Pratt won at third flight over Clara Goshgarian, 6-3 and 6-2.
Priyanka Challapalli '27 dominated her fourth flight match against Lili Goshgarian, 6-1 and 6-1. Qian posted another phenomenal win in sixth flight action against Smith's Alexa Konstantopolous 6-0 and 6-2. Qian is tied for the team lead with four singles victories.
The Continentals return to competition in the spring of 2025.
