Volleyball conquers Colby in three-set NESCAC match

The Hamilton College volleyball team defeated Colby 3-0 in a NESCAC match at Colby's Wadsworth Gym on Saturday afternoon. The Continentals (8-5, 4-3 NESCAC) won by scores of 25-23, 25-13 and 25-18.

Christine Zizzi '18 matched a career-high with five service aces and Dorothy Poucher '21 chipped in five as Hamilton held a 13-7 advantage in that category. Giuliana Rankin '20 smashed a match-high nine kills while Courtney Brown '18 added eight kills and picked up seven digs.

Nikki Matsuoka '21 had a team-leading nine digs and Kyndal Burdin '18 dished out 23 assists.

The first set remained close until Hamilton scored five unanswered to take a 21-15 lead. The Mules responded with a 6-0 run to tie the score at 23-all. A kill by Rankin and a Colby attack error finished the set.

Set three started like the first set with seven ties and four lead changes. The score was tied 8-8 when Zizzi delivered a service ace to take the lead and the Continentals never gave it back.

Hamilton returns to Margaret Bundy Scott Field House next weekend for two NESCAC matches. The Continentals play Amherst on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. and Trinity on Saturday at 1 p.m.
