Volleyball overwhelms Pitt-Bradford and Houghton

The Hamilton College volleyball team finished day two of the University of Rochester Volleyball Invitational on Saturday afternoon with two 3-0 triumphs.

The Continentals rebounded from an opening match loss to Rochester on Friday night with victories over Pitt-Bradford (25-18, 25-15, 25-15) and Houghton (25-18, 25-20, 25-10).

Kristin Baker picked up the first two wins of her head coaching career.

Hamilton finished 2-1 at the tournament. In a field of eight teams, the Continentals ranked first in blocks per set (2.45) and second with 11.60 kills per set. Christine Zizzi '18 was one of ten players selected to the all-tournament team. Zizzi averaged 4.10 digs in 10 sets during the weekend and served three aces in the win against Houghton.

Courtney Brown '18 finished the tournament with a team-best 31 kills. Emma Parkhurst '21 led the Continentals with 74 assists and 35 digs. Margaret O'Brien '18 and Dorothy Poucher '21 paced the tournament with 1.10 blocks per set apiece.

Hamilton opens NESCAC play on Friday when Connecticut College visits Margaret Bundy Scott Field House at 8 p.m.
