Donahue '18 hammers 11 kills as volleyball drops season opener

The Hamilton College volleyball team opened its 2017 season at the University of Rochester Volleyball Invitational on Friday night. The Continentals fell to the host Yellowjackets (4-1) in four sets.

After dropping the first set 25-13, the Continentals responded in the second with a quick 9-3 lead. Hamilton held off a late Rochester surge to win 25-18.

The teams remained within two points of each other until halfway through the third set. Rochester scored four straight before Hamilton rallied to take the 17-16 advantage, but the Yellowjackets took the third 25-21.

The momentum continued for Rochester in the fourth as they closed the night with a 25-13 final set.

Erin Donahue '18 led the Continentals offense by collecting 11 kills. Courtney Brown '18 and Giuliana Rankin '20 added 10 and 8 kills respectively.

Emma Parkhurst '21 collected a team-best 28 assists in her first collegiate action. Christine Zizzi '18 finished with 22 digs and Parkhurst chipped in 20.

Hamilton returns to action Saturday. The Continentals will take on Pitt.-Bradford and Houghton in the second day of competition at the University of Rochester Invitational.
