Track & field teams compete at regional championships

Twelve Hamilton College athletes will compete at the 2018 All-Atlantic Region Outdoor Track and Field Conference Division III Championships at SUNY Brockport's Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium in Brockport, N.Y. on Wednesday, May 16 and Thursday, May 17.

The event is the final chance of the season for individuals to achieve national qualifying marks for the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships held next week at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in La Crosse, Wis.

The Hamilton women's team is ranked 12th in the Atlantic Region by U.S. Track & Field and Cross County Coaches Association, and the men's squad is ranked 13th.

Ty Kunzman '20 starts things off for the Continentals with the men's hammer throw Wednesday at 2 p.m., and Emily Hull '18 competes in the women's hammer at 5:30 p.m. Kunzman is ninth in the Atlantic region with a season-best distance of 49.09 meters. Hull broke her own program record this season (46.91m) and is ranked 10th in the region.

Cat Berry '19 and Marie Steiner '20 kick off Wednesday's track events at 5:10 p.m. with the women's 100-meter dash trials. Berry's season-best time of 12.31 seconds is the seventh fastest time in the region, and Steiner is ranked 22nd with a time of 12.59 seconds. The finals of the women's 100 meters is at 3:20 p.m. on Thursday. Also on Thursday, Berry and Steiner will race in the 200-meter dash at 4:45 p.m. where Berry is ranked third (24.87) in the region and Steiner is 16th (25.60). Berry holds the program record in both events.

Eli Saucier '18 begins his schedule on Wednesday night with the 100-meter trials at 5:25 p.m., and the finals are Thursday at 3:25 p.m. He also competes in the 200 meters at 5 p.m. on Thursday. Saucier holds the program record in both events. His season-best times of 10.64 seconds in the 100 meters and 21.65 seconds in the 200 meters ranks him second and third in the region, respectively.

The men's 3,000-meter steeplechase starts at 7:05 p.m. on Wednesday when Erich Wohl '18, ranked third in the region, looks to improve upon his career-best time of 9:28.13. Peter DeWeirdt '18 and Henry Whipple '18 conclude the first day of competition with the 5,000-meter run at 8:10 p.m.

Hanna Jerome '18 starts day two for Hamilton with the women's 1,500-meter run at 1:30 p.m. Jerome is coming off a personal-best performance at SUNY Geneseo's Beautiful Valley Open last week with a time of 4:43.30.

Will Richardson '21 represents the Continentals in the men's 400-meter hurdles at 3:05 p.m.

Lucas Wright '21 completes the championships in the men's 800-meter run at 3:55 p.m. after Mary Lundin '19 races in the women's 800 meters at 3:35. Wright is ranked second in the region with a season-best time of 1:52.06, and Lundin is third with her career-best time of 2:15.29 set at the NESCAC Championships on April 28.
