Aulicino ’21 dominates at Canton Classic in women's tennis

Hamilton College's Sophia Aulicino '21 won all three of her singles matches at the 2017 Canton Classic Women's Tennis Tournament hosted by St. Lawrence University on Sept. 16 and 17.

Union and SUNY Geneseo joined Hamilton and the Saints in the competition.

Aulicino made quick work of Geneseo's Lauren Salzano (6-0, 6-1) and St. Lawrence's Emily Wyman (6-2, 6-3). Union's Natalia Pezzuco forced a tiebreaker in the first set but Aulicino came out on top, 7-6 (5-0), 6-1.

Ajla Karabegovic '21 went 2-1 in singles play. She defeated Lia Petersen of St. Lawrence in straight sets (6-1, 6-0) and Union's Megan Brown in three (4-6, 6-1, 11-9). Karabegovic also played into the tie-breaking third set with Geneseo's Vanessa Lam-Tran but lost 6-3, 1-6, 10-7.

Aulicino and Karabegovic teamed up in doubles competition. The duo were defeated by Union 8-5 and St. Lawrence 8-6, but dominated Geneseo 8-1.

Ndanu Mutisya '21 and Ines Ayara '20 went 0-3 in both singles and doubles competition.

The Continentals visit Skidmore College next weekend for the ITA Northeast Regional Championship.
