Another comeback for women's tennis, another 5-4 win

The Hamilton College women's tennis team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule by edging the visiting William Smith College Herons Wednesday at Hamilton's Margaret Bundy Scott Field House. The Continentals posted a 5-4 win in a match-up of regionally ranked teams.

Hamilton is now 10-5 on the season and the Continentals are 16th in the latest ITA Northeast Region ranking. William Smith, who fell to 8-7, is 20th.

The Continentals' last three wins have all come by 5-4 counts and for the second match in a row, the clinching point came from Iona Forrester '20 at sixth singles.

Forrester improved to 8-5 on the season, posting a 6-3, 6-1 win at number six to complete Hamilton's comeback (the Continentals rallied from a 2-1 deficit after dropping two of the three doubles contests).

Claire Keyte '17 and Samantha Weeks '19 both contributed to victories in singles and doubles play. After teaming for an 8-4 win at the second doubles spot, the two swept their singles opponents at number two and number four, respectively.

Keyte and Weeks are now 14-8 in doubles completion; Keyte continued to extend her own school record by raising her career total to 56 doubles wins. Weeks is now a team-best 14-6 in singles play, while Keyte – who outlasted her opponent 15-13 in a tiebreaker in the first set – is 11-9 on the year.

Hamilton's other point came at third singles, where Jane Haffer '19 was a straight-set winner to improve to 12-8 overall.

The Continentals return to NESCAC competition this weekend, traveling to Massachusetts for a pair of matches against nationally ranked opponents Tufts and Amherst; Hamilton faces the eighth-ranked Jumbos Saturday and faces the nationally ranked No. 12 Mammoths Sunday.
