Women's squash edged by Wesleyan in NESCAC Championship

The Hamilton College Continentals dropped a 5-4 decision against the Wesleyan University Cardinals in the 2018 NESCAC Women's Squash Championship's seventh-place match at Hamilton's Little Squash Center on Sunday.

The Continentals (7-9 overall) were the No. 8 seed for the championship and 22nd in the College Squash Association (CSA) team rankings. Wesleyan (10-11) was seeded seventh for this event and ranked 21st by the CSA.

Grace Munschauer '18, Liesl Guenther '21, Marina Hartnick '18 and Danielle Reisley '18 earned team points for Hamilton. Three matches went to five games and the Cardinals won all three of them.

Munschauer picked up her sixth victory with her four-game win at the fourth position. She came out on top 18-16 in the first game and clinched the match by a 13-11 decision in the fourth.

Guenther evened her record at 8-8 with a four-game triumph at the seventh position. She won the first and third games by a 13-11 count.

Hartnick swept her opponent in three games at the eighth position and has an 8-6 record this season, including 8-4 against NESCAC opponents. She led the Continentals by winning all four of her championship matches during the weekend.

Reisley posted her team-high 10th win this season by defeating her opponent in four games at the ninth position. Her 12-10 victory in the second game gave her a commanding two games-to-none lead in the match.

Hamilton hosts William Smith College at Little Squash Center on Thursday, Feb. 8 at 4:30 p.m.
